Filifest 2022

Our Place is Here exhibition at FiliFest!

Our Place is Here collaborated with FiliFest this year, hosting an exhibition at their annual festival, raising awareness about the issue of labour exploitation in the UK.

FiliFest is a youth centric movement aimed at promoting Filipino culture, through a series of events and digital activations throughout the year. Their annual Filipino Festival returned to an in person event following COVID restrictions, which was hosted at UCL and brought together the young Filipino diaspora in celebration of Filipino culture.

The Our Place is Here exhibition, in partnership with Kanlungan and FDWA, included screenings of the explainer video, display boards outlining the issue and the Our Place is Here campaign, merchandise from the partners and the campaign, as well as a Jeepney photo booth. Visitors could add their polaroid photo to a board of solidarity, as well as share a message of support to migrant domestic workers.

Collaborating with FiliFest was a great way for a younger Filipino audience and the public to engage with migrant domestic workers, and learn more about labour exploitation and migrant workers’ rights in the UK. We wanted to raise awareness around the issue, and start building momentum towards the campaign residency over the summer. Overall, FiliFest was a successful event enjoyed by the Filipino community and domestic workers.

The Our Place is Here campaign aimed to build solidarity and support for migrant domestic workers within the diaspora community, and partnering with FiliFest helped us to reach this audience. You can show your support for better workers rights by stamping the demands from domestic workers on our website. Let’s come together as a community and demand change.
